Headlight versions by year

2017 – 2019Before the facelift
  • Most Niros: halogen projector with an HB3 bulb.
  • Early top-spec cars: xenon headlights (D8S).
  • LED daytime running lights on all versions.
2019 – 2022 · incl. 2021Facelift
  • Standard: halogen projector with an HB3 bulb.
  • Higher-spec cars: full LED headlights.
  • The e-Niro (electric) mostly has LED headlights.

Spec varies by trim and market, so go by what's in your headlight, not the year alone.

How to fit HB3 LED bulbs in a Kia Niro

  1. Switch the lights off and let the old bulbs cool.
  2. Open the bonnet and twist the round rubber cap off the back of the headlight.
  3. Unplug the connector, then twist the HB3 bulb anti-clockwise and pull it out.
  4. Fit the LED bulb and twist it clockwise until it locks in straight.
  5. Plug in the connector and tuck the wiring away from moving and hot parts.
  6. Refit the cap, then check both dipped and main beam work.
  7. Check the beam pattern against a wall and have the aim checked.

About 15–20 minutes. If access is tight or you're not sure, have a mechanic fit them.

Beam pattern

  • The Niro's projector lens shapes the beam with a sharp cut-off line.
  • Fit the bulb straight and fully locked so the cut-off stays sharp.

Alignment

  • Check the headlight aim after fitting so you don't dazzle other drivers.
  • Any garage or NCT centre can check the aim.

NCT

  • The NCT checks aim, beam pattern, operation and lens condition.
  • Results depend on your headlight, the fitting and the aim, so we can't promise a pass.

Kia Niro LED headlight questions

What headlight bulb does the Kia Niro use?

The 2017–2022 Kia Niro with halogen headlights uses an HB3 (9005) bulb in each headlight. The same bulb does both dipped and main beam, so you need two bulbs.

What headlight bulbs does the 2021 Kia Niro take?

A 2021 Niro with halogen projector headlights takes HB3 / 9005 bulbs, two in total. Higher-spec 2021 Niros have factory LED headlights, which have no bulb to change.

What's in the Kia Niro M200 full kit?

Two M200 HB3 bulbs for dipped and main beam, two HB4 fog bulbs, two W5W parker bulbs and two W16W reversing bulbs – €150 for the lot.

What fog and parker bulbs does the Kia Niro use?

The 2017–2022 Niro uses HB4 / 9006 bulbs in the front fogs and W5W bulbs in the parkers and number plate lights. Reversing lights take W16W.

Will these LED bulbs fit a Niro with factory LED headlights?

No. Factory LED headlights have the LEDs built in and no bulb to change. These headlight bulbs are only for halogen headlights with an HB3 bulb.

Do I need bulb holders or adapters?

No. HB3 LED bulbs twist straight into the Niro's original HB3 socket. Just check the rubber cap closes fully over the back of the bulb.

Will I get a warning light on the dash?

Our bulbs are CANBUS READY. If a warning ever appears after fitting, contact us and we'll help.

Do I need to align the headlights after fitting?

We recommend it. Check the beam against a wall and have the aim checked so the light goes where it should and doesn't dazzle other drivers.

Will my Niro pass the NCT with LED bulbs?

The NCT checks headlight aim, beam pattern, operation and lens condition. A bulb fitted straight in a clear, correctly aimed headlight gives the best result, but we can't promise a pass.
